What Are the Driver Requirements for Canadian Licence Holders?

To subscribe to a Roam vehicle with a Canadian licence (outside Ontario), you must be at least 23 years old, hold a valid Canadian licence, have no more than 3 demerit points, and have a minimum credit score of 650. Some provinces may require a Motor Vehicle Report or Driving Record. Full criteria are listed below.

Driver Criteria

  • Must be a minimum age of 23
  • Must have no major driving violations, suspensions, or infractions within the last 3 years
  • Must have no major criminal convictions or moving violations within the last 3 years
  • Must have no more than 3 demerit points or 3 outstanding violations, suspensions, or infractions
  • Must have a valid credit score — Roam's minimum credit score requirement is 650 (scores below 650 will be reviewed but may result in an increased security deposit)
  • Must have a valid Canadian licence
  • Select provinces may require a Motor Vehicle Report or Driving Record, which can be requested from your official provincial licensing website (e.g., Service Ontario)

Insurance Opt-Out Requirements

Canadian drivers who choose not to use Roam's insurance coverage on Short-Term plans must provide one of the following:

  • Proof of a personal insurance policy with coverage for Non-Owned Auto or OPCF 27, with a deductible of $2,500 or less
  • Proof of credit card insurance coverage for rental vehicles or Non-Owned Auto

Note: On Long-Term plans (30+ days), Roam's insurance coverage is required for consumer customers.
