What Are the Driver Requirements for Canadian Licence Holders?

To subscribe to a Roam vehicle with a Canadian licence (outside Ontario), you must be at least 23 years old, hold a valid Canadian licence, and have no more than 3 demerit points. Roam also reviews your motor vehicle record and credit as part of approval — full criteria are listed below.

Driver Criteria

• Must be a minimum age of 23
• Must have no major driving violations, suspensions, or infractions within the last 3 years
• Must have no major criminal convictions or moving violations within the last 3 years
• Must have no more than 3 demerit points or 3 outstanding violations, suspensions, or infractions
• Must have a valid Canadian licence
• Motor vehicle record (driving record): Roam reviews your driving record as part of approval. Many provinces share this electronically, so Roam can pull your record on your behalf. In some provinces and territories, you'll need to request your driving record from your provincial or territorial licensing authority and provide it to Roam — if that applies to you, our team will let you know and walk you through how to do it. • Credit: Roam reviews your credit as part of approval. There's no hard minimum credit score, but a score below 650 may result in an increased refundable security deposit. The credit check is a soft check, so it has no impact on your credit score.

Insurance Opt-Out Requirements

Canadian drivers who choose not to use Roam's insurance coverage on Short-Term plans must provide one of the following:

• Proof of a personal insurance policy with coverage for Non-Owned Auto or OPCF 27, with a deductible of $2,500 or less
• Proof of credit card insurance coverage for rental vehicles or Non-Owned Auto

Note: On Long-Term plans (30+ days), Roam's insurance coverage is required for consumer customers.
